<About Exhibition>

Crafts born from the hands of artisans link tradition to the present and connect nature with people. This exhibition opens the door to time, inviting visitors to encounter the voices and philosophies of today’s artisans through video. The sound of wood being cut, the touch of thread being woven, the resonance of Hanji being pounded—all fill the space of Nodeul Gallery, offering a sensory experience of standing “within the flow.” This marks the first step onto the bridge of connection.

This exhibition seeks to capture the philosophical symbolism of (and connection bound into) the knot within an artistic context. Through the frameworks of “the time of nature,” “the time of the artisan,” and “the time of the work,” it explores the continuity of traditional craft, opening up fresh ways to rediscover its meaning today.

○ The Time of Nature

  - Part 1 reveals how materials, through the grain of nature, are transformed into crafts by the hands of artisans, along with the time and meaning embedded in them. The grain of wood, before it becomes a piece of furniture, is not only to be admired with the eyes: it invites us to sense its temporality through touch and breath. Artisans spend long hours facing the wood, honoring its unique character and seeking the beauty innate within it.

○ The Time of the Artisan

  - Part 2 highlights the hands of artisans, which capture the journey of natural materials as they are transformed into works of art. Their fingertips carry memories and bear the traces of life. The time of the artisan is also the time that binds generations together. Within this space, the lineage of master and apprentice, legacies passed down through families, and the memories inscribed in each artisan’s life unfold.

○ The Time of the Work

  - Part 3 explores how works born from the hands of artisans are newly interpreted within contemporary life, illuminating new paths into the future. Fading traditions are rediscovered, and through their encounters with modern design sensibilities, a new language of craft emerges. In this way, visitors are invited to reflect on the meaning of craftsmanship today and, through participatory programs, directly experience the present and future of craft.
