Book Description
This book, published in 2020, is part of the K-Heritage series and covers Yeondeunghoe, which was inscribed on the UNESCO Representative List of the Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity in the same year.
Yeondeunghoe is one of the representative tradition-bound festivals of Korea with its history spanning more than 1,200 years. Yeondeunghoe is a festive event in which Buddhists light up lotus flower-shape lanterns in order to shed light on the dark, which translates into “lighting up wisdom of mind” in Buddhism. The official English title of the festival, literally meaning “to light up a lantern.”
