Jongmyo Jerye, or Royal Ancestral Ritual in the Jongmyo Shrine is a ritual held at Jongmyo Shrine, a national shrine of Joseon and a UNESCO World Heritage Site, to hold a memorial service for ancestral kings and queens of the Joseon Dynasty.

The rite is also called Jongmyo Daeje, or the Great Jongmyo Rite because it was the largest and the most important memorial rite held by the Joseon Dynasty. 

The rite used to be held five times a year including spring, summer, autumn, winter and the annual sacrificial day, but nowadays it is held on the First Sunday in May and First Saturday in November. 

In addition, it is a com prehensive ritual that is unprecedented in the world in that you can enjoy not only the royal ancestral memorial rite, but also tangible and intangible world heritage such as ritual music and llmu dance.

The rite was restored in 1969 by the Committee of Jongmyo Jerye Conservation(Jeonju Yi clan royal familly Association), and the royal memorial rite consists of ther Initial stage for the rite preparation, the royal procession in which the king leaves the palace to arrive at the Jongmyo shrine, and the memorial ceremony held at the shrine along with the ritual music and dance. Jongmyo Jerye was listed as a UNESCO 

intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity in 2001 and has been held as an international cultural event since 2006.
