Jongmyo Jeryeak Jeonpyehuimun, Somu, Yeonggwan

Jibbak Kwak Taikyu Gayageum Kim Hyungsub Cheolhyeongeum Ryu Kyunghwa

Jongmyo Jeryeak is a comprehensive term referring to the music (),song (), and dance () performed during jerye, where the spirit tablets of successive kings and queens of the Joseon Dynasty are enshrined. Among them, ‘Jeonpyehuimun (奠幣禧門)’ is a song performed at the beginning of jerye, played during the offering of tribute to the spirits. It unfolds solemnly along with Ilmu (佾舞) that praises the king’s moral virtues (文德). Then, ‘Somu' and ‘Yeonggwan' from Jeongdaeeop Confucian Ritual Music, which praise the king’s military achievements, are performed, revealing the dignity of the monarch and the authority of the ancestors through simple yet grand melodies.
